As they embraced, Madame Pele appears and offered them an opportunity to spend eternity together. She then changed Ohia into a tree and fashioned Lehua into beautiful red blossoms and placed her in the arms of her lover. It's said, that if visitors pick a lehua blossom, it will rain...the ears of the lovers."
